The Crafty Robot allows anyone to easily and cheaply create their own moving robots. In doing so it radically lowers the entry point, both financially and technically, for people to get creative with technology. The reusable, rechargeable Fizzbit makes the fundamentals of technological development - experimentation and iteration - incredibly accessible due to its low cost and ease of use. A single Fizzbit can be the basis of hundreds of different moving robots made from paper, household rubbish, Lego or even 3D printed. The only limit is your imagination.
We don’t think building with technology should only be accessible to the children of people who can afford to spend hundreds of pounds on a kit. You don’t need expensive hardware and a proprietary digital environment to get people excited about making.
By making getting creative with technology more accessible The Crafty Robot hopes to broaden the appeal of the Maker Movement and act as a gateway to more sophisticated platforms like Raspberry Pi and Arduino.
In October 2015 The Crafty Robot was successfully funded on Kickstarter by over 1,600 backers whose pledges were fulfilled on time. We have run robot building workshops at numerous Maker Faires as well as the Cheltenham Science and EMF Festivals.
